ST. IGNATIUS – The Mission Bulldogs looked dominant in their 58-6 Friday night home season-opener win over the Plains Horsemen.
Senior running back Canyon Sargent and junior running back Rhain Gonzalez each had a rushing touchdown, wide receivers Kenny Ness and Lex Lafrombois each caught a touchdown pass from senior quarterback Kellen McClure, and senior Bryce Umphrey found the endzone twice helping the Bulldogs to a six-touchdown halftime advantage.
“I thought this game was a complete team effort from the beginning to end,” said Bulldog head coach Carson Oakland. “Our starters got in and played well from the start. That gave the younger guys an opportunity to get some varsity time.”
McClure finished his night with 128 yards passing on 5-of-6 throwing and three touchdowns.
Sargent had a game-high 74-yards rushing on nine carries, while Titan Mansell finished with 71-yards on 11 rushes. Mansell also threw a fourth quarter 36-yard touchdown pass to Izeyk Umphrey.
Lex Lafrombois had a team-high 55 yards receiving, 50 of which came on his second quarter touchdown pass reception from McClure.
“We have some things to clean up, but I'm proud of these guys and look forward to building off what we did in week one,” noted Oakland.
On Friday, the Troy Trojans will host the Bulldogs at 7 p.m.
