Dough'nut sound like a fun run
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 2 years, 8 months AGO
COEUR d'ALENE — A fun run for those who don't really care for running, prefer a shorter distance or like to eat doughnuts, is set for Saturday at McEuen Park.
For the second year, the Sunrise Rotary Club of Coeur d'Alene is hosting the Dwight Bershaw Memorial run, with the starting gun at 10 a.m.
To be clear, this is not a serious race and the winner might get an extra doughnut. But rather it is billed as "The race for the rest of us!"
That's because it's all of .5k, which comes out to about 500 meters, or .31 miles, or 1,640 feet, or 19,685 inches.
Last year, about 100 people completed the course, described as "grueling terrain over a pancake flat paved trail."
Cost is $25, which gets you a T-shirt from the fictitious University of Lake Coeur d'Alene, a window sticker and all the doughnuts you can eat at the midway point.
Proceeds go to the Rotary's local and international charitable causes.
Bershaw, a longtime member of the Sunrise Rotary Club known for his volunteerism and commitment to the community, died Aug. 20, 2021, at the age of 54.
A pocket park that will bear his name will go on the south side of McEuen Park at the base of Tubbs Hill.
