SPOKANE — In his season debut, Kolton Mitchell scored 24 points and set a Fitz Tournament single-game record with eight assists as the Lake City Timberwolves routed the Bothell (Wash.) Cougars 74-34 on Saturday at Lewis and Clark High.

“It was nice to have Kolton back,” Lake City coach Jim Winger said of Mitchell, who missed the opener after he and a Post Falls player were ejected from a preseason jamboree.

Blake Buchanan added 16 points — seven of his eight field goals were dunks — and 12 rebounds, and Reese Strawn, Cason Miller and Deacon Kiesbuy each had seven points.

“We played really well. First half we were very energetic, and really getting up and down the floor, just a great half of basketball,” Winger said. “Cason Miller played really well (off the bench) in particular. He’s a really good defender, and today he was really solid in all aspects.”

Bothell is 0-2.

Senior Scotty Hocking scored 22 points and Nick Nowell 12 points for Lakeland (0-3).
