PREP WRESTLING: Seguine, Smith help Trojans to second at Sidney invite

SIDNEY, Mont. — Post Falls sophomore Rider Seguine and senior Gentry Smith claimed individual titles for the Trojans at the season-opening Sidney Invitational on Saturday.

Seguine beat Gordan Knapp of Sidney by an 8-3 decision to capture the 103-pound title and Smith won by pin 39 seconds into the 205-pound title match against Broch Mansor of Oak Harbor.

Also placing for Post Falls was: Jose Laguna (second at 182), Trevor Miller (second at 285), Tyson Barnhart (third at 132), Seth Martin (third at 152), John Rudebaugh (fourth at 160), Keanyn DeGroat (fourth at 182), Zack Campbell (fifth at 132), Malcolm Duthie (fifth at 205) and Trey Smith (sixth at 145).

Poway (Calif.) won the tournament with 323 points, followed by Post Falls in second with 186.

Post Falls visits Lake City on Thursday.

Blaine Leonard captures

138-pound title in Polson

POLSON, Mont. — Lake City’s Blaine Leonard beat Chris Rathjen of Columbia Falls 13-6 to capture the 138 pound title at the Owen Invitational at Linderman Gym.

“Blaine just had an awesome weekend and put on a show,” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “There were a couple of state placers and nobody could touch him. He just blew the doors off of everyone he wrestled. It was awesome to see.”

Zack MacDonald (second at 113), Garrett Leonard (second at 182), Jackson Duva (third at 132) and Caden Dutra (fourth at 145) also placed for Lake City, which finished sixth with 127 points.

Columbia Falls won the tournament with 215.5 points.

Lake City will face East Valley and Bonners Ferry on Wednesday at Coeur d'Alene High.

Johnson, Cook win

at Bonners tourney

BONNERS FERRY — Lake City’s Alexxis Johnson (132 pounds) and Madi Cook (145) claimed individual titles at The Blizzard tournament at Bonners Ferry High.

Cook defeated Cara Brown of Coeur d’Alene in the 145-pound finals.

“It was a pretty big step forward for her,” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “She’s been working hard and improved a ton over the last year.”

Bonners Ferry’s Savannah Rickter won at 165.
