PREP BASKETBALL: Bittner notches 300th coaching win at North Idaho Christian

SPOKANE VALLEY — Senior Rylee Overturf scored 18 points and the North Idaho Christian Royals beat Spokane Classical Christian 64-27 in Mountain Christian League play Thursday night at the HUB Sports Center, giving 18th-year head coach Jerry Bittner his 300th coaching victory at NICS.

Danica Kelly added 12 points, eight assists and seven steals for North Idaho Christian (7-1, 1-0 MCL). Jennifer Peterson had 11 points, eight assists and five steals, Chelsey Cate 10 points and 12 rebounds, Simone Pilgrim 14 boards.

Addy Frank led Spokane Classical Christian with 15 points.

North Idaho Christian plays host to Genesis Prep on Saturday at Holy Family Catholic School in Coeur d’Alene.

SPIRIT LAKE — Freshman Malia Miller scored 10 of her game-high 14 points in the first half as the Tigers downed the visiting Rams from Chattaroy, Wash., in nonleague play.

Jozee MacArthur added 12 points for Timberlake (5-0), and Jenna Chase hit three 3-pointers and finished with nine points.

“We played good defense, and our energy was good,” Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. “We took good shots, but we had a tough time hitting shots. I feel like we're getting better on the defensive end, and that was probably our best rebounding night.”

PRIEST RIVER — The visiting Wildcats outscored the Spartans 30-13 in the second half in the Central Idaho League opener for both schools.

“I’m super proud of our guys,” said Kellogg coach Mike Martin, who was without starters Logan Hendrix (flu) and Bridger McLean (concussion). “We were down two starters and had Kolby (Luna) get into foul trouble in the first quarter. In the second half, we started to play defense without fouling and getting better possessions and played more balanced.”

Kolby Luna scored 15 points, Reed Whatcott 14 points for Kellogg (3-1), which travels to Newport (Wash.) on Dec. 19.

Tyler Engelson scored 13 points for Priest River (2-2), which hosts Sandpoint on Saturday.

MULLAN — Austin Zingler scored eight of his 15 points in the third quarter as the Tigers pulled away, then held off their Silver Valley rival Miners in nonleague play at the Mullan Pavilion.

“Austin was everywhere tonight, he was taking charges, taking the ball to the hole, rebounding like crazy,” Mullan coach Paul Elston said. “And we were able to weather the storm in the fourth.”

Floyd Nelson hit two 3-pointers and scored a game-high 16 points for Mullan (2-3), which won at home against Wallace for the first time in more than a decade. The Tigers won at Wallace last year.

Damian Davis scored 10 points for Wallace (1-4), which played without standout Brad Tesky (illness).

Mullan plays at the Lake City “C” team on Tuesday.
