Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 3 years, 9 months AGO
SPOKANE — Coeur d’Alene doesn’t intend on having Colton Tucker compete at 170 pounds for long this season.
But the sophomore is making his mark at that spot this weekend.
Tucker, along with Will Rossi (120), Logan Bradley (126), Alyssa Randles (126), Dax Larsen (145) and Justin Hayes (285) went unbeaten on Friday to advance to today’s semifinal round in the Inland Empire Classic at Central Valley High.
Tucker won by a 9-8 sudden victory over Konary Ellis of Mead (Gold) in the quarterfinals.
“Colton’s really going to be our 152 guy at some point, but has to wrestle at 170 this weekend,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “He was going out and trying some things and did a good job.”
Lakeland's Jaren Knopp (106), Matt Williams (120), Kaleb Hammer (132), John Meredith (138) and Preston Jeffs (285) also advanced to the semifinals.
Jeffs will face Hayes in a semifinal, as will Randles and Bradley.
Coeur d’Alene is third out of 17 teams with 94 points. Lakeland is sixth with 66 points.
“We’re still plugging along and trying to correct some mistakes,” Moffat said. “But all the kids are battling and need to keep learning. Overall, the kids wrestled hard.”
Mead (Blue) leads with 110.
The event concludes today with championship finals at 3 p.m.
