Overtime was not kind to the Noxon Red Devils boys basketball team, who fell 51-40 to the Troy Trojans in a game that was 39-39 at the end of regulation.

The Lady Red Devils, however, managed to split a pair of game this weekend, beating Troy 42-32 Saturday night after falling 38-28 in a road game versus Clark Fork, Idaho.

The boys and Troy engaged in a defensive struggle most of the first half, with Noxon taking an 11-7 first quarter lead. The teams each scored seven in the second quarter giving Noxon an 18-15 halftime lead.

Noxon then got things going in the third quarter, outscoring the home standing Trojans 12-6 to grab a 30-21 lead going into the final quarter.

Troy came alive in the fourth, scoring 18 points to tie the game at 39-39 and send it to overtime.

The Trojan defense then held Noxon to a single point in the extra period while scoring 12 of their own to escape with the win.

The loss dropped Noxon to 0-2 on the year.

Noxon’s girls then got a bit of revenge when they took on and beat the Lady Trojans Saturday night.

Troy took a 13-11 lead over the Lady Devils, only to see the visitors come back and tie the game, then build a 22-17 halftime advantage.

Noxon would add four more points to the lead in the third quarter, then closed out the game by outscoring the host Lady Trojans 9-8 in the final eight minutes of play for the win.

Things did not go as well across the Idaho border Friday night, when the Lady Devils fell behind 13-4 and could not catch the home team after that. Clark Fork led 23-10 at the half, then built that to 34-14 by the end of the third quarter.

Noxon outscored Clark Fork 14-4 in the fourth quarter but it was not enough to overcome the early Clark Fork lead.

Senior forward Emily Brown led the Lady Devils with 13 points.

The split gave Noxon’s girls a 2-2 record on the young season.

Next up for the Noxon boys and girls is a road trip to Superior this Friday, followed by a home game vs St. Regis Saturday afternoon.
