Duke, Sherrill, and Balch bring home the gold

A number of wrestlers did well for the Bulldogs at a recent tournament.

On the boys side, Andrew Duke and Shane Sherrill took first in their respective weight classes again. Duke in the 106-pound and Sherrill in the 138. Head coach Doug Fry noted that Sherrill pinned his opponent with a move called an assassin in the semifinals.

Jordan Tyler had a close match in the finals at 182, but came home with second place. Aiden Rork brought home fourth place at 106.

The Bulldogs had three girls place in the tournament. Grace Balch took first at 235, Emma Garman was third at 120 and Sylvia Becker took second at 165.

“We took a smaller team than last year, but placed higher,” Fry said.

The Sandpoint varsity team travels to the Tri-State Tournament at Bonneville High School this weekend. The JV team will compete in a tournament at Lakeland.
