NORMA FAYE MOELLER

1923-2022

Norma Faye Moeller, age 99, passed away Dec. 17, 2022. She was born Nov. 3, 1923, to Oval Lena (Kinion) and Lionel Blair Walton on her Walton grandparents’ farm in Butler, Mo. Lionel Blair Walton was a direct descendant of Simeon Walton (1741-1798), a soldier in the American Revolutionary War.

When her father was diagnosed with tuberculosis, Norma and her parents moved to El Paso, Texas. After her father passed away in 1927, Norma and her mother moved to Butler, Mo., eventually moving to North Kansas City when Norma’s mother married Frank E. Mollenhauer in 1929.

Norma played the accordion on live radio every Saturday morning as a member of the Kansas City Kiddies Revue (mid-1930s) sponsored by Jenkins Music. In high school, she was a member of the 4H Sewing Club. Norma graduated on May 22, 1942, from North Kansas City High School.

On June 3, 1944, when she was 20 years old, Norma was adopted by her stepfather and took the name of Norma Faye Mollenhauer. Norma married, Russell Charles Fields on Aug. 31, 1946, at the First Presbyterian Church in North Kansas City. No children were born of this union. Russell passed away in September 1962.

As a young woman, Norma joined Beta Sigma Phi (a friendship sorority that originated in Kansas City). She was active in a local chapter wherever she moved during her life. She held many offices in the various chapters, including chapter President. Norma received the 60-year pin from Beta Sigma Phi.

Norma’s career began after high school graduation and spanned almost 47 years of full-time employment in clerical, secretarial and bookkeeping positions. Some of her employers were: Fleming Foods, ISC Industries, Jack Roach Ford, Western Geophysical, and MW Kellogg. She retired from Chubb & Son in January 1989.

Norma met Wayne Arthur Moeller at a Kansas City ballroom dance club; they married on Dec. 10, 1965, at St. James Lutheran Church in Kansas City, Mo. They made their home in North Kansas City, Mo., until they moved to Houston, Texas, in May 1972.

Norma and Wayne enjoyed bowling, fishing and ballroom dancing. They attended the Stock Transfer Association convention every year during Wayne’s employment at Panhandle Eastern. They had friends among the attendees and enjoyed the various convention locales as well as dancing at the annual ball. In Houston, they were members of the Elks Lodge #151 and played Bingo there. They also played card games with family and friends: Pinochle, Hearts and Canasta. Wahoo (Aggravation) was a favorite board game played with Wayne’s children and grandchildren. Norma also enjoyed painting ceramics and working Word Search puzzles.

In November 1996, Norma and Wayne moved to Wayne’s hometown of Post Falls, Idaho, where Wayne had grown up on his parents’ wheat & dairy farm. They were active members of the Post Falls Historical Society, the Post Falls Lions Club, Calvary Lutheran Church, the Post Falls Senior Center, and the Rathdrum Senior Center until Wayne passed away in November 2013. Norma moved to Garden Plaza of Post Falls in March 2015, where some of her friends already lived. She enjoyed the social environment and activities there.

Norma’s only children are her stepdaughters, Cheryl Moeller Hodgeson of Houston, Texas, and Renee Moeller Dicken Taylor (deceased). Norma is also survived by three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Kyle Hodgeson of Sugar Land, Texas; Avi Dicken and his daughters, Gabriella & Casey Dicken, of Centereach on Long Island, N.Y.; Keturah (Kay) Dicken Owings Rusk and her sons, Tyler Owings and Ayden Rusk of Houston, Texas.

A visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 22, 2022, at 10:30 -11:15 a.m. at Bell Tower Funeral Home: 3398 E. Jenalan Ave., Post Falls, Idaho 83854. Norma’s funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at 11:30 at Bell Tower Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at 1 p.m. following funeral services at Coeur d’ Alene Memorial Gardens: 7315 N Government Way, Coeur d'Alene, ID 83815.
