POST FALLS — Sometimes, you’ve just got to get back to the drawing board.

Ryan Baker scored a game-high 18 points for the visiting Meridian Warriors in a 74-58 win over the Post Falls Trojans at The Arena on Thursday.

Max Gwilliam and Nate Reynolds scored 12 points each for Meridian (4-6), picked fourth in the 5A Southern Idaho Conference.

“We did not execute what we wanted to do,” Post Falls coach Mike McLean said. “We knew that they were going to use that dribble drive and our defensive awareness was as poor as we’ve seen with this group. For whatever reason, we just did not execute today. Our attention to detail was not where it needed to be and led to us being careless with the ball and getting away from what we were doing well.”

Neil McCarthy scored 11 points for Post Falls (2-10), which hosts Lewiston on Jan. 6.

“Landon was a tough matchup for us throughout the game,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jon Adams said. “Him and Sawyr are tough, big bodies and hit some big shots for them down the stretch. Eagle executes very well and they’ve got a lot of post exchange action and had a lot of second chance opportunities.”

Sophomore Carter Rupp scored 26 points, junior Logan Orchard 12 for Coeur d’Alene (9-3), which is off until the Fight for the Fish spirit game on Jan. 13 against Lake City at Coeur d’Alene High.

“I liked our effort,” said Adams, whose team went 3-1 in the Tarkanian Classic last week in Las Vegas. “It was our seventh game in 10 days and that took a toll on us. I liked our effort and activity. Eagle just out executed us and we need to get better at some things.”
