SANDPOINT — Sandpoint boys basketball struggled in a 71-43 Inland Empire League loss to Moscow on Tuesday.

The Bears led 22-9 after one quarter and by 23 points at the half.

"We dug ourselves our hole early and we turned the ball over a lot," head coach Brian Childs said. "They came ready to play and they really got into us, pressured us, got physical with us and we had a real difficult time."

Moscow hit 11 3-pointers in the game. Childs said the Bears took the fight to his team.

"Our approach to the game just wasn't what its been," he said.

With the loss, Sandpoint finishes 0-4 in 4A IEL play and will be the third seed in the 4A Region 1 tournament. This is the Bulldogs' 30th straight defeat to a 4A IEL opponent.

Ethan Butler led all scorers with 21 points.

"Ethan brings it every day," Childs said. "They made him earn every single point tonight."

Rusty Lee tallied 6 points and Jacob Eldridge had 5.

Childs said the Bulldogs need to move past this loss quickly and not dwell on it.

"I'm hoping this is just an anomaly because we've really competed well all year," he said.

The Bulldogs (4-12) welcome Coeur d'Alene to Les Rogers Court at 3 p.m. Saturday for Senior Night.
