KELLOGG - Sandpoint and Kellogg’s dual on Wednesday came to an end with the score tied at 42.
It came down to criteria, which was head-to-head matches where the Wildcats edged the Bulldogs 7-2.
Sandpoint heavyweight Gavin Walters pinned Kyle Van Vleet in 20 seconds.
Before that, Sandpoint received three wins by forfeit in the 195, 170, and 160-pound classes. The Bulldogs won both matches by pin, resulting in six points.
But what kept Sandpoint alive was when it didn’t get pinned.
In the 132-pound weight class Wyatt Marker managed to only give a 4-1 minor decision against Kellogg’s Tanner Willams.
At 138, Sandpoint’s Shane Sherill lost to Ethan Guy 8-2 which resulted in a major decision.
Sandpoint wrestling coach Jake Stark said “It’s huge to not get pinned in duals,”
The Wildcats managed to soundly defeat the Bulldogs in the middle-weights however, with pin fall victories at 120, 126 and 145.
