Lakeland to be No. 3 seed at regionals

Sandpoint defeated visiting Moscow 42-35 at home Friday night to earn the No. 1 seed to next week’s 4A Region 1 tournament.

After the game, Moscow (6-15, 2-6 Inland Empire League) won a coin flip with Lakeland (7-9, 2-6) for the No. 2 seed. Lakeland will be the No. 3 seed, and will travel to Moscow on Monday at 6 p.m. in the loser-out first round.

The winner will play at Sandpoint (10-8, 3-5) on Wednesday in the first game of a best-of-3 series for the regional title and the lone berth to state.

Lakeland beat Moscow by 12 points during league play and Moscow beat Lakeland by 20. But since the IEL uses a 12-point cap in figuring point differential, a coin flip was necessary.
