BONNERS FERRY — Sandpoint finished fifth at the Conrad Garner Invitational and had six individual placers.

Christian Trombley-Karkoski was the Bulldogs only first place finisher. He received a 5-4 minor decision victory over Lake City’s Garrett Leonard.

“He’s peaking at the right time,” Sandpoint wrestling coach Jake Stark said. “He’s won a lot during the last couple of duals and we were hoping to get him into the finals and he didn’t disappoint.

Another grappler that stood out to Stark was 195-pounder Austin Smith who finished third. He pinned Joshua Pinkerton of Bonners Ferry eight seconds into the second round.

At 138, Shane Sherill sealed a 5-6 minor decision victory over Lakeland’s Lucas Williams.

“That kid is his nemesis,” Stark said. “This is the third or fourth time they’ve faced and he finally beat him. This was a real big turning point for Shane. I can see him making it to State if he keeps wrestling like that.

Sandpoint travels to Moscow on Friday Feb. 11 to dual Moscow.
