Darlene R. Odegaard, 88

Darlene R. Odegaard passed away on Feb. 1, 2022, at Whitman Hospital. She was 88.

Darlene was born Jan. 30, 1934, in Spokane, Wash., to Edwin and Nellie (Chick) Anderson. She grew up in Spokane and graduated from high school there.

Darlene started dancing at the young age of three and continued on to teach dance throughout her high school years.

Following high school, she moved with her parents to a ranch near the Calder, Idaho, area on the St. Joe River.

She met and married Ronald Dean Odegaard on Aug. 29, 1959, at the hitching post in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. They moved to Coeur d’Alene and welcomed their three children: Connie, Larry and Ed.

Darlene dedicated her life to her family and being a homemaker. She also enjoyed working part time at Pines Bakery in downtown Coeur d’Alene for about eight years. She loved to bake, cook, and garden. She and Ronald loved to take the kids camping. Often times during spring break, they would spend time together taking trips and spending time on the lake.

Following her husband’s death in 2001, she took up line dancing. She also made many friends and enjoyed traveling with the Rambling Rovers.

She is survived by her three children; Connie (John) Tietz of Worley, Idaho, Larry Odegaard of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Ed (Tracy Gravelle) Odegaard; by 3 grandchildren, Sam Tietz, Heather (Larry) West, and Erin Odegaard; by 2 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Olivia West; and by her sister-in-law, Bernie Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ronald, and by her brother Edwin Anderson.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries, Idaho. Corbeill funeral home of Colfax, Wash., is caring for the family.
