NIC BASKETBALL: Cardinal men, women handle Columbia Basin

PASCO, Wash. — Sophomore Julius Mims had 18 points and seven rebounds for North Idaho College in a 70-61 win over the Columbia Basin Hawks in Northwest Athletic Conference play on Wednesday night.
NIC (13-6, 7-1 NWAC) shot 31 of 60 and outrebounded Columbia Basin 38-34. The teams combined for seven free throws in the game.
Sophomore Daniel Santana scored 15 points and sophomore guard Cooper DeWitt had eight points, nine rebounds and five assists for NIC.
Tyler Kurtz scored 17 points for Columbia Basin (11-8, 4-4).
NIC returns home to face Blue Mountain of Pendleton, Ore., on Saturday.

PASCO, Wash. — Sophomore Xuriyah Harry had 14 points and 10 rebounds off the bench for the Cardinals in a Northwest Athletic Conference win over the Hawks.
Freshman Mary Mpoyo scored 14 points for NIC, which outscored Columbia Basin 39-12 in the second half, including a 25-5 margin in the fourth quarter.
“We started out a little rough in the first half and threw the ball away a few times,” NIC coach Korina Baker said. “But we came out really strong in the second half. We played aggressive and kept our turnovers under ten and Xuriyah really came up clutch for us tonight. She’s capable of doing that every night, and really put together a solid night for us.”
NIC shot 25 of 59 and outrebounded Columbia Basin 41-24.
“We were just flying around and played really well defensively,” Baker said. “It was a good all-around defensive effort. It was fantastic to see.”
NIC (10-6, 5-3 NWAC) hosts Blue Mountain of Pendleton, Ore., on Saturday.
