Hillmer “Chuck” Charles Johnson, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in his home in Port Townsend, Wash., after a long courageous battle with cancer on Jan. 20, 2022.

Chuck was born on Nov. 22, 1940, to Hillmer and Dolly Johnson in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He was proud to have been born and raised in North Idaho. He joined the military out of high school, and was proud to have been a veteran.

Chuck married his loving wife Sam in Reno, Nev., in May of 1979 before moving back to North Idaho in 1980. There they operated multiple successful ventures like an insulation company, a janitorial business and ran a certified family home taking care of elderly and disabled adults. Chuck always had a passion for helping those in need.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Sandra “Sam” Johnson and his children, Wayne Johnson and wife Dawn (Port Townsend, Wash.); Eric Thorneycroft and Ex-wife Nikki Thorneycroft (Post Falls, Idaho); Tana Johnson(Port Townsend, Wash.); and Julie and husband Steve Leitch (Moxee, Wash.). He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Tim and Trevor Taylor; Quinn, Rachel, Elijah and Jeri Thorneycroft; Callen and Cole Johnson; and Courtney, Alexandria, Hailey and Daniel Leitch, and one great-grandchild Amara Dawn Rose Harnasch. Also survived are his nephews Jon and Gary Taylor (Stockton, Calif.) and his great-nephew Jon and wife Tabitha Taylor (Gig Harbor, Wash.).

He is proceeded in death by his parents, sister Beverly Johnson, and brothers Donald, Bill and Dick Anderson.

A memorial service will be held at a later time. He will be laid to rest in a family plot in Post Falls, Idaho.
