Hearing on Comp Plan tonight

A public hearing on the city of Coeur d’Alene’s Comprehensive Plan for 2022-2042 is scheduled tonight at the Library Community Room.
Following the hearing, the council will consider a resolution that calls for adopting the plan.
During a hearing before the Planning and Zoning Commission last week, about 25 people expressed opposition to the plan. Many cited concerns it did little to control growth, promoted high-density housing and would result in increased homelessness, crime and taxes.
The commission voted 5-0 Tuesday night to send the plan to the City Council.
Commissioner Lynn Fleming said the plan must take into consideration for rapid transportation and housing for working people.
“There are many populations in this city that are all different and we can’t expect they’re all going to live in a single-family dwelling,” she said.
“We are not all doctors and lawyers,” Fleming added.
Envision Coeur d’Alene has been a collaboration between the city of Coeur d’Alene and CDA 2030 to shape growth and identify priorities for the future of Coeur d’Alene, according to the city’s website.
The process started in September 2019 and involved more than 60 community service groups, more 1,400 people and many meetings and workshops.
Some said they believed only two public hearings to comment on the finished plan was not enough time.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
