Hilda Cutler, 96

The family of Hilda Cutler share the fact that Hilda’s soul left her earthly body Friday, Feb. 11, 2022. Hilda passed in her sleep at Guardian Angel Homes-Post Falls, where she had resided for the past 15 months.

Hilda left three children, Jim III (Paula), Janet, and Charlie (Ginger) along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and friends when she passed to join her many loved ones who preceded her in death. Hilda had been blessed with a long, healthy life. She had her affairs in order and was ready to go home.

Hilda was born and raised on a farm in Kansas. She arrived Dec. 7, 1925, the youngest of nine children born to Russian-German immigrants Peter and Anna Brack. Hilda was the first member of her family to graduate high school. To accomplish that, she had to move into town and work for her room and board.

Following graduation from Holcomb High, near Garden City, KS, Hilda left the small town for Denver, Colo. It was there she met a young airman in the USAF, whom she married May 1948, in Rawlins, Wyo.

Hilda enjoyed the travel associated with being a military wife. She also found satisfaction working outside the home and served in various capacities. She frequently worked civil service positions while her husband was active duty.

Following her husband’s retirement from the Air Force, in 1967, the Cutler family settled in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Hilda was a longtime member of Christ the King Lutheran Church and was quite active in the Church during her younger years.

Hilda always enjoyed the natural beauty of North Idaho. One of her favorite activities was to hike Tubbs Hill. Hilda served in a variety of roles including such things as: being a census taker, an Avon representative, working with the Boy Scout World Jamboree when it was held at Farragut State Park and being a school cook. Although Hilda did not like to cook, other aspects of the job appealed to her; the school calendar, the hours, the comradery with her co-workers but primarily it was being able to help feed hungry children that she found most gratifying.

Hilda like to read and always read the daily newspaper to keep track of current events. She liked to bowl, play golf, square dance, play pinochle and spend time in her yard. Hilda had an amazing green thumb. She grew producing fruit trees, peach and plum, from seed in her yard. She liked harvesting the citrus fruit that grew on the trees in her yard when she was a snowbird and had a place in Mesa, Ariz.

Although Hilda will be missed by family and friends, her memory will be kept alive in their hearts. She had a positive, profound impact on everyone she was involved with.

Hilda’s family is hosting a memorial service in her honor Friday, Feb. 18, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1700 Pennsylvania Ave, Cda, ID. Anyone who knew Hilda is invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers donations made be made in Hilda’s name to Onsite for Seniors, Cda ID, Friends of Tubbs Hill, or Christ the King Lutheran Church.
