YOUTH JAILED IN EXPLOSIVES CASE

Investigation continues into the discovery of two explosive devices at Sandpoint High School Friday. An unidentified 15-year-old student was charged with reckless endangerment and placed in jail in lieu of $10,000 bond after a school bus driver overheard students discussing the possibility of placing dynamite in or near the home of the high school’s assistant principal. The driver reported what he had heard to Principal Sodorff, who notified police. Another student found two explosive devices in a locker at the school Friday and threw them into Lake Pend Oreille. Police recovered one of the devices, a jar of gunpowder containing a fuse, and after questioning a youth identified by the bus driver, took him into custody. The apprehended youth told police he was angry with the assistant principal and had thought of placing the devices in his office “to scare him,” but hadn’t done so.

CHILD FALLS

Five-year-old Dolly Buckmaster, 717 N. Ella, received minor injuries Feb. 11 when she slipped on an icy street and slid under a pickup while walking to Lincoln School. Police said hospital examination indicated the child was not seriously injured.

Feb. 17, 1922 – “BUNDLE DAY” CONDUCTED

Today is “Bundle Day” here, the climax in a general clothing relief effort conducted through the schools for the benefit of the needy around home, and destitute thousands in the Near East. Garments and shoes needed for local relief will first be selected from the contributions and what is not needed here will be baled up by the Near East Relief committee and hurried over seas to help meet a desperate crisis of want among unknown thousands of men, women and children of Armenia and Bible lands.

CENTER VALLEY NEWS

Enos Rhoton was pleasantly surprised when a jolly crowd of young people assembled at the Rhoton home in honor of Enos’ 18th birthday. Although Enos had retired for the night, he was soon awakened and ready to join in the merriment. Various games and tricks were indulged in until near midnight. A delicious lunch was served, featuring a checkerboard birthday cake.

CENTRAL DRUG IN NEW QUARTERS

The “cozy corner” accurately describes the new quarters into which the Central Drug store was moved this week. The transformation from the old style store with a row of shelving and counters on two sides, to one with shelving and counters on four sides, each side a department, and with entryways from two streets, is a wonder which can be appreciated only by seeing. The innovation is a drawing card for the city.
