The students of Timberlake Senior High and Lakeland High schools have battled their way to glory and record-breaking fundraising results.
Timberlake High School secured victory Jan. 15 during the Battle of the Buck, a spirit competition with Priest River Lamanna High School. Timberlake met its goal of collecting $2 per student, ultimately raising $1,241 and gathering more than 800 pounds of food donations. The funds have been designated by the school to help a family in the community that recently suffered the loss of a parent.
"We are so proud of the school spirit and sportsmanship displayed by our students, teams and coaches," Timberlake activities director Tim Cronnelly said.
Lakeland High School spirit champions raised a generous $22,000, obliterating their previous record of approximately $8,000 during the Battle for the Paddle against Sandpoint High School on Jan 21. These funds will support the Lions Club Nutritional Weekend Backpack Program, which provides food for students in the Lakeland community during the weekends, and the Lakeland Strong account, which provides financial assistance to students and families in financial need due to crisis.
Winning these spirit competitions ensures that the “Paddle” and the “Buck'' will reside within Lakeland Schools. The competitions showcase the dedication of Lakeland students who support their classmates in competition and their community through fundraising.
"The culture and climate of your building is on full display in these events," Lakeland activities director Matt Neff said. "I could not be more proud of the LHS student body.”
