KELLOGG — Kellogg High School students along with Kellogg High School Art teacher Racheal Krusemark will host an art show at Wallace flower shop Sol & Serre.

The special art show will feature works based on the historic buildings in Wallace in soft pastels as well as the floral designs of Sol & Serre owner Sarah Murphy done in oil pastels.

The show really was the combination of two art shows into one.

Last year, KHS students drew the Wallace buildings and planned an exhibition and fundraiser, but unfortunately, COVID-19 did not allow the art show to happen. Not wanting to waste the beautiful pieces, Krusemark held on to the artwork over the summer because she felt the inspiration for a show would come to her.

While working with her students on textures with oil pastels, Krusemark remembered seeing Murphy's beautiful floral designs and asked permission to have the students draw them and possibly use them as a fundraiser.

Murphy generously said, "Of course!"

"I had no idea how great the drawings would turn out," Krusemark said excitedly "It's always difficult to know how successful a project will be. But, these drawings turned out so wonderful, something great had to be done with them. We have our annual art show at the end of the year, but these pieces need to be seen now and by more than just the small audiences that we usually draw at our spring event."

Krusemark was excited when the idea came to her, saying that, “the idea of Winter Bloom just came to me one day, and then I remembered the Wallace building drawings and thought the perfect place for the show would be at Sol & Serre, which also houses Sarah's real estate business Local Real Estate. The idea just came together, sometimes ideas are magic like that."

Murphy and Krusemark worked together to choose the top pieces to make five copies each, which will sell for $10. In addition, the original building pieces will also be offered, with preferences given to the business owners whose buildings are featured.

"My two favorite pieces are ‘Wallace Brewing’ drawn by Gracie Miller and ‘The Silver Shop’ drawn by Skylar Sheppard,” Krusemark said. “We also have coloring books for sale featuring the buildings of Wallace and another from the previous year featuring many of the buildings from Kellogg. These will be $5."

Other buildings included in the show are the 1313 Club, Ace Hardware, Elks, Brooks, Cogs, Corner Hotel, Shoshone County Courthouse, Depot, FOE, Fonks, Funky Monkey, Idaho Building, Idaho Press, Sixth Street Melodrama, Metals, Oasis, Pizza Factory, Rossi, St. Alphonsus, Sweets and Woodland Market.

The show will be at Sol & Serre in Wallace on Thursday, Feb. 25 from 6-8 p.m.

Mocktails will be made by Murphy and served at the show. Patrons can also view the show on Friday, Feb. 26 from noon to 4 p.m.

Krusemark and students will be in school, but Sarah will have her shop open for purchases. All profits from the show will go back to Kellogg High School's art program to purchase supplies to make more art.

There will also be sets of small cards created by printmaking for sale.
