PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: McLuskie sends Jaguars to district title game

COEUR d’ALENE — Junior Ayson McLuskie scored 17 points for the second-seeded Genesis Prep Jaguars in 47-23 a win over the third-seeded Wallace Miners in a 1A Division I District 1 tournament semifinal at Rolly Williams Court on Tuesday.

“I really liked our defensive intensity,” Genesis Prep coach Lon Morast said. “We made it hard for them to score and didn’t give up too many easy baskets.”

Genesis Prep (8-11) will face Lakeside (11-3) in Thursday’s championship game at North Idaho College starting at 7 p.m.

“It’s going to be a battle,” Morast said. “We’re going to give it our best shot.”

Robbie Morin scored eight points for Wallace, which finished (3-14).

KELLOGG — Junior guard Ridge Williams scored 17 points for the second-seeded Badgers, who beat the top-seeded Wildcats in the 3A District 1 championship game at Andrews Gymnasium.

“Hats off to Bonners Ferry, they were prepared and took stuff away to the rim and took a lot of charges tonight,” Kellogg coach Mike Martin said. “We got down by 16 (40-24) in the third quarter, but it was good to see our guys come back. We just didn’t have enough in the tank to get over the hump.”

It was the Badgers’ (13-8) first district title since 2007.

Kolby Luna scored 20 points for Kellogg (13-8), which hosts Timberlake in the district second-place game tonight at 7.

SPIRIT LAKE — Senior Zach Yetter scored 12 of his game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter to push the third-seeded Tigers past the fourth-seededSpartans in a loser-out game in the 3A District 1 tournament at Timberlake High.

Yetter went 6 of 8 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to help seal the win.

“Zach had a really good game,” Timberlake coach Mike LaFountaine said. “I’m really happy for him. He went out and did what we asked him to do. His free throws in the fourth quarter were ideal.”

Junior Hunter Higgins scored 15 points for Timberlake (7-13), which travels to Kellogg in the district second-place game tonight at 7.

Trentyn Kreager scored 13 points for Priest River, which finished 8-13.

COEUR d’ALENE — Luke Trogden scored 21 points for the Tigers in a win over the Warriors in the semifinals of the 1A Division II District 1 tournament at Rolly Williams Court.

“We played solid tonight,” Mullan coach Paul Elston said. “Kootenai plays hard and will battle. I think Kootenai coach Jake Pfeiffer has done a great job there. I thought we were good in many ways tonight. We had good team play.”

Floyd Nelson scored 10 points for second-seeded Mullan (7-10), which faces top-seed Clark Fork (14-6) in the championship game on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Freshman Christopher Moore scored 16 points, hitting four 3-points for Kootenai, which finished 0-14.

GRANGEVILLE — The second-seeded Bulldogs eliminated the third-seeded Maniacs in the 2A District 1-2 tournament.

Grangeville (4-13) travels to top-seeded St. Maries (17-3) on Thursday at 6 p.m.

The Bulldogs must beat the defending state champions twice to advance to state, with an if-necessary game on Saturday at 6 p.m.
