Roberto Robles Mejia, 41, of Othello was arrested in connection with a break-in at Commercial Tire on North Frontage Road just east of Moses Lake on Sunday, according to a Grant County Sheriff’s Office press release.

GCSO deputies had responded to an alarm being triggered at the business. Upon arrival, they found a hole in the outside fence at the rear of the business.

Moses Lake Police Department K-9 Jester was called in and soon located Robles Mejia hiding in a stack of tires in the business. Robles Mejia had tools available to remove a catalytic converter from a school bus that was secured inside Commercial Tire, but was apprehended prior to being able to cause any damage to the vehicle.

Robles Mejia is being held at the Grant County Jail for burglary, attempted theft and malicious mischief, the GCSO announcement said. Robles Mejia was expected in court on Tuesday and it was unknown at press time what bail conditions may have been set.

Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones applauded the cooperative efforts of GCSO and MLPD in the case.

“This is just another great example of teamwork by both the Grant County Sheriff’s Office and Moses Lake Police Department to catch a burglar,” Jones said.
