NIC BASKETBALL: Cardinal men fight past rival Spokane

COEUR d’ALENE — Sophomore Julius Mims had 20 points and eight rebounds for North Idaho College, which pulled away in the final 5:30 to beat the Community Colleges of Spokane 89-79 in a Northwest Athletic Conference game at Rolly Williams Court on Wednesday.

Freshman Jalen Skalskiy hit two free throws to give NIC a 76-72 lead with 5:30 remaining, sparking a 13-7 run to close out the game.

Cooper DeWitt had 19 points and Taden King 16 points for NIC, which shot 30 of 59 and made 22 of 29 from the free throw line.

Kaeleb Johnson scored 16 points for Spokane (15-9, 8-5 NWAC), which is third in the East Region.

NIC (16-7, 10-2) is second in the East Region and returns to action on Saturday at Yakima Valley.

COEUR d’ALENE — Kolby Pimperton scored 16 points for the Cardinals, who shot 21 of 50 in a Northwest Athletic Conference loss to the Sasquatch at Rolly Williams Court.

Payton Hagy scored 10 points for NIC (11-9, 6-6 NWAC), which has lost three straight games.

Emma Main scored 15 points and Dejah Wilson, a sophomore from Lake City High, had seven points and a team-high five rebounds for Spokane (12-8, 10-3).

NIC travels to Yakima Valley on Saturday.
