Victor D. Bess 'Grandpa'

(Vic) Grandpa passed away peacefully at his home with his family and friends by his side. He was preceded in death by Lesley Bess, his wife of 30 years.

Grandpa was an Army vet, structural engineer at Boeing, he helped design the Budweiser hydroplane, and he was an outstanding long-jump skier, who was well known in the Leavenworth area. As a Boeing engineer, Vic worked on many programs that made a difference to our country and humanity in general. He received several awards for his work on the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo missions that laid groundwork for all space exploration that has followed.

Grandpa was a humble man, who had an amazing ability to break down complex problems into simple understandable terms and solutions. His creativity and anything-is-possible attitude will be greatly missed.

Vic and Lesley both retired and moved to a 200-acre ranch in Chesaw, Wash. They would go on to be ranchers, rest/lounge owners, and foster parents, opening their hearts and home to 150 children throughout Washington and Idaho. Needless to say, those two were always up to something together!

Grandpa filled our lives and hearts with memories and love. We will always be grateful to have had so many years with him.

We will forever miss you, rest in peace, Grandpa.
