From here to Florida.
The Coeur d’Alene Blazen Divaz took off to Fort Myers, Fla., to participate in the Edison Festival of Lights Grand Parade on Feb. 19.
“It didn't take much to put our dancers to work preparing for Florida,” said John Parmann, president of the dancing group. “The crowds were outstanding with shouts of ‘We love the Divaz,’ and many 'Thank you’s’ for coming along the parade route.”
The 54 Divaz, covered in lights, danced their way down the almost 2.5 mile parade route while an estimated 250,000 spectators shouted their love and support for Coeur d’Alene’s hometown ladies.
The festival, in honor of inventor Thomas Edison, began in 1988 and is the largest southern Florida parade.
“The excitement and constant encouragement of the crowds ensured success,” Parmann said. “All said and done, it was a blast.”
The Divaz were awarded the “Good Neighbor” trophy and took some time to tour the area's museums, theater and attractions. They also enjoyed the 80 degree temperatures before returning home to Idaho weather.
The next chance to see the Divaz is March 12, at 3 p.m. in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Coeur d’Alene. The parade starts at Eighth Street and Sherman Avenue and travels west to the intersection of First Street and Sherman.
