Terry Grant Corey passed away Christmas night 2021 at home with his family by his side. He fought a strong battle against congestive heart failure for 18 years. Terry was born March 17, 1952, to Grant and Helen (McNurlin) Corey in Spirit Lake, Idaho.

The Coreys moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1954. Terry graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1971, where he fell in love with his wife of 50 years, Gay Kaufman. They had two children, Kristopher in 1974 and Bridget in 1978.

As a young adult, Terry worked with his father for Corey Construction. In the late 1970s, Terry went to work for his father-in-law, Chet Kaufman, as a manager for Blue Flame Gas Co. After almost 20 years in the propane business, Terry and Gay bought Check It Out Video. They owned and operated the video store chain for 15 years before returning to his first love of construction. Terry founded Black Wolf Homes and Development, Inc. in 2004, which he owned and operated until his passing.

Terry enjoyed many activities, mostly outdoors. He loved boating with his wife, fishing and hunting with his close friends and son. He was an avid trap shooter and enjoyed watching every sport live and on television.

Terry was preceded in death by his father, Grant Corey, and mother, Helen Corey. Survivors include his wife, Gay; sister, Linda (John) Duran; son, Kris Corey; daughter, Bridget (Gaite) Kennedy; grandchildren, Aliya Moore, Aiden and Dallas Kennedy; nephews, Todd and Brent Kaufman, Travis and Tyler Drechsel; and niece, Alysha Duran.

A celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Terry’s name to the Children’s Village of Coeur d’Alene or donate online at thechildrensvillage.org.

Yates Funeral Home is entrusted with final arrangements. Please visit Terry’s online memorial and sign his guestbook at yatesfuneralhomes.com.
