YAKIMA — The Quincy High School Lady Jacks basketball team took on Tenino High School in the Wilbur-Ellis Sundome Shootout on Tuesday in Yakima.
The Lady Jacks played only one game in the two-day tournament, which was against Tenino.
The first quarter seemed to be the deciding quarter, and Tenino out-scored Quincy in every quarter of the game.
Tenino came right out to score 22 points in the first quarter, while Quincy managed only five. The following three quarters were a lot closer in points: 8-10, 7-9 and 5-8. Quincy couldn’t come back from the 17-point deficit of the first quarter and ultimately Tenino came out on top, with 49 to Quincy’s 25.
Quincy head coach Micaiah McCreary said playing at the Sun Dome was a great experience for the team.
“This was the biggest ‘stage’ they have ever played on and I’m happy they were given the opportunity. We struggled with the press coming out, but battled our way back and rebounded very well considering our height versus theirs. I thought everyone contributed and played well and stayed aggressive until the final buzzer,” said McCreary.
McCreary also said the season was going well, but the team struggled with some injuries early on. She said the injuries have hindered the team; however, the girls are working hard and have a lot of season left to play.
The Lady Jacks are 3-7 overall and 1-3 in the Caribou Trail League. The next scheduled game is against league contender Cascade High School Tuesday at Quincy High School.

Ag issues on docket in 2023 Washington Legislature
OLYMPIA — The 2023 Washington Legislature session included bills to support agriculture. House Bill 1138, concerning drought preparedness, is one piece of that legislation. “We’ve been working on that for two to three years,” said Rep. Tom Dent, a sponsor of the bill. “So we get into a drought in different areas of the state and the drought committee comes together and puts together a plan to help people in the drought-affected area to mitigate the effects of the drought, whether it means through use of emergency wells, financial assistance, (or other measures).” HB 1138, requested by the Department of Ecology, adjusts the circumstances in which the Drought Committee is authorized to convene. The bill amends these circumstances to include when a drought advisory is in effect and when a drought emergency order is in effect.
