A pair of 2021 Sandpoint High grads recently announced they will be transferring from their respective colleges.
Gabby Hicks, a former star on the volleyball court for the Bulldogs, is transferring from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, to Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego to play alongside her older sister, Grace Hicks, a 2019 SHS grad.
Gabby will be eligible to hit the court for the Sea Lions, a Division II school in the Pacific West Conference, this fall.
Gabby, who was named all-league twice at SHS, recorded 207 kills and 29 aces during her senior season with the Bulldogs in the fall of 2020. Grace, a two-time IEL MVP, had 66 kills and 37 total blocks for Point Loma this past season.
Kayelin "KJ" Johansen, a former Greco, Freestyle and Folkstyle state champion who placed twice at the Idaho Girls Wrestling Finals during her time at SHS, is transferring from the wrestling program at Corban University in Salem, Oregon, to Minot State University in North Dakota.
Johansen will be eligible to compete for the Beavers' women's wrestling team in their inaugural season this fall. Johansen finished fourth at 130 pounds for Corban during the Spokane Open on Nov. 21.
Johansen was the second female from SHS to receive a scholarship to wrestle collegiately and she will be a sophomore on the mat this fall for Minot State, a Division II school in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
Current Sandpoint senior Luke McCorkle also recently announced his commitment to play football at Whitworth University in Spokane.
McCorkle earned all-league honors at defensive back and returner in his final season for the Bulldogs this past fall. The cornerback tallied 58 tackles and one interception.
