11 Spartans place at Chad E. Ross Memorial Tournament

ST. MARIES — The Priest River wrestling team continued its strong start to the season with an impressive showing at the Chad E. Ross Memorial Tournament last Thursday.
A total of 11 Spartans placed in their respective weight classes to lead the squad to a third-place finish out of 13 schools. Priest River only finished behind 5A Post Falls and 4A Lakeland.
Colm McLaimtaig, Keith Poirier and Helena White all claimed first in their weight classes. McLaimtaig secured a pair of pins to earn the title at 106 pounds and Poirier sailed to the championship at 126 pounds with three pins all in the first round. White won the girls D bracket at the tourney with three pins.
Hayden Sorbel (113) and Aidan Troumbley (132) brought home second-place medals. They were both pinned in their championship matches.
Kailee Davis grabbed third in the girls A bracket, and Caeden McLaimtaig (132), Dillon Haylor (138) and Bradley Bennett (170) all took fourth. Two Spartans placed sixth — Charles Bennett (145) and Caleb Grow (285).
Sandpoint also had 20 wrestlers compete in the tournament. Six Bulldogs placed and the team finished ninth.
Emma Garman won the girls A bracket and Rylie Hancock earned second in the girls B bracket. Kai McKinnon captured third at 170 pounds, and Wyatt Marker (132) and Bryson Tucker (170) both grabbed sixth. Aurla Palmer was fourth in the girls C bracket.
The Bulldogs return to action tonight when they travel to Kellogg for a dual. JV matches start at 5 p.m., followed by varsity at 6 p.m.
