“Mix Tape,” a new art show featuring the conceptual works of two local artists, will open Jan. 14 at Emerge in downtown Coeur d’Alene.
The show features the art of sculptor Chris Grubb from Atlanta, Ga., who now works in a studio in Coeur d’Alene. Grubb was born in the Southwest and moved across the country as a young man with his family, which he said gave him a broad cultural perspective. Grubb also is a licensed structural engineer.
“Sculpture is a perfect art form for me because I work in a professional field that requires precision and 3-D visualization: skills that translate well to sculpture,” Grubb wrote in his bio. “In sculpture, I discovered a medium through which I can portray emotion that I find difficult to express by other means.”
The show also features the works of Hanna Kuhns, an art teacher at Coeur d’Alene High School.
Kuhns was born in Munich, Germany and attended the University of Idaho. Kuhns said after spending time in college studying art in formal settings, she gravitated toward the “pure aspects of art that originally drew her in.” She said her current work is a process of “letting go of expectations.”
Kuhns currently lives in downtown Coeur d’Alene with her husband and three daughters.
The show runs until Feb. 7.
