After a long battle with multiple myeloma, Martin Francis Close, Jr., age 74, passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife, Kit, by his side, on Dec. 30, 2021, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Marty is survived by his wife, Kit Close, his daughters, Shanda (Paul) Husted and Brianna (Joe) Buchmann, grandchildren Saquoyah Luecke, Kamy Umali, Aaron and Grant Husted, and Lexi and Avery Buchmann, and brothers Robert, Kevin, Jim, and John Close and sister Mary Alaniz, as well as many other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Francis Close, Sr. and Myra DeeEtte Lovelace Close.
Marty was born on July 10, 1947, in Harrisburg, Pa., to parents Marty and Dee. He graduated from Fullerton State University with a bachelor's in accounting. He worked at numerous banks in Sonoma, Santa Rosa and Fairfield, ending his career at the Federal Reserve Bank San Francisco. He also did side bookkeeping jobs for places such as The Arts Guild of Sonoma.
Marty is most known for his dedication to the Sonoma Children’s Cancer Foundation where he was a volunteer director working on fundraising, Christmas parties and other events for children, their siblings and families affected by cancer.
Marty was a beloved family man and a loving husband, father, grandfather, and big brother. He was a man of God, always had an infectious smile, had a great sense of humor, and would do anything for his girls. With his loving wife, Kit, he raised two children, Shanda and Brianna, in Sonoma, Calif. He also made a home in Fairfield, Calif., and Fremont, Calif., before retiring to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
