The Glacier High School Speech and Debate team won first-place at The Yeti tournament last weekend.

Six schools, including Glacier, competed in the home tournament. Due to inclement weather, five schools were not able to attend, according to Glacier head coach Greg Adkins.

Glacier amassed 242 overall points for the win among Class AA schools. Missoula Sentinel came in second with 137 points, followed by Missoula Hellgate in third with 82.5.

“This tournament was really important for our team. Our JV kids haven’t gotten to compete much this season, and getting a two-day tournament experience is so awesome for these kids, and it really helps in the development of our program,” Adkins said, with the junior varsity scoring 86.5 points.

When looking at competing Class A, B and C schools only, Columbia Falls rose to second place with 57.5 points, behind Frenchtown’s 62 points. Whitefish came in third with 16 points.

“This season we have had a number of close tournament results with the first and second-place positions usually coming down to just a few points in the final sweeps. This weekend was another close competition …” said Columbia Falls head coach Dawn Roe.
