A 31-year-old man is in jail for allegedly shooting another man in the leg Jan. 7 outside of McDonald’s on Stratford Road in Moses Lake, officials said.
A man texted his girlfriend to pick him up at the fast-food chain restaurant, said Moses Lake Police Department Chief Kevin Fuhr, which she did.
However, Fuhr said a man in the back seat of the vehicle, Dakota Michael Johnson, whom the victim knew, allegedly brandished a gun and demanded the victim empty his pockets.
When the victim tried exiting the vehicle, Johnson allegedly shot him once in the thigh area, Fuhr said. Emergency response personnel were called to the scene at 10:21 p.m. and the victim was taken to Samaritan Hospital.
Johnson turned himself in to authorities two days later, Fuhr said. Police filed unspecified assault and robbery charges with the Grant County Prosecutor’s office, which may proceed with formal charges.
As of Sunday, Johnson was in the Grant County Jail.
