Former Vandal Franks named UI cornerbacks coach
MOSCOW — Vandal football alum and veteran assistant coach Stanley Franks Jr. has joined Idaho coach Jason Eck's staff as cornerbacks coach.
Franks comes to Idaho from Washington State where he spent the last two seasons as a defensive quality control coach. In his position, he worked on film breakdown and scouting. He also recruited Oklahoma and California.
"I knew Coach Franks as a player and he has a lot of passion and love for this place," Eck said.
Prior to his time at WSU, he was the defensive coordinator for one season at Cabrillo College in Aptos, Calif.
He spent two seasons as the assistant DBs coach for the Canadian Football League's BC Lions in 2017 and 2018.
He was the defensive backs coach at Idaho State from 2013 to 2017.
Franks was the DBs coach and defensive coordinator for the Spokane Shock during the 2012 arena football season and coached at Ferris High in Spokane for two seasons prior to his time with the Shock.
He played three seasons for the BC Lions from 2009-2011 and played one season with the Spokane Shock in 2009. He was signed as a free agent after graduation by the Chargers.
Franks holds the Idaho single-season interception record when he grabbed nine during the 2006 season, a mark that led the NCAA that year. He also earned All-WAC First Team honors and Sports Illustrated Honorable Mention All-America honors. He had a 98-yard interception return touchdown against Utah State in 2006, the fourth-longest in Vandal history. He also holds the single-season school record for interception return yards with 220.
