I have deep North Idaho roots and graduated from Eastern Washington University with an English degree with a creative writing emphasis with a minor in film. I worked at at the Bonner County Daily Bee before coming to work at the Bonners Ferry Herald in August 2021. I enjoy writing for the paper that my great-grandfather read and covering the same small town community that is still alive today. I cover all things Badger sports, local politics and government, community news, business, outdoors and appear on the 7Bee podcast for the Herald's update. When I'm not working I can be found reading a good book and sipping tea, knitting or attempting to sign opera. | January 27, 2022 1:00 AM
TIMBERLAKE — Girl Badger basketball had a 8-0 run to tie the game against Timberlake up at 31 with three minutes left in the fourth quarter.
But with under a minute left, the Badgers trailed by four points and they had to foul, said head coach Travis Hinthorn.
The Tigers made eight of their 10 free throws down the stretch to beat the Badgers 43-36.
“We did a good job staying close to them and gave ourselves a chance after that nice run towards the end of the fourth,” Hinthorn said. “We played well defensively and the girls did a great job on a couple of adjustments. You have to give it to Timberlake, they made their free throws down the stretch.”
Markynn Pluid led the Badgers with a game-high 12 points to go along with her eight rebounds and three steals. Kaylee Sumpter added seven points and six rebounds.
“Markynn is continuing to improve and play well and her teammates are doing a great job of seeing her and getting her the ball,” Hinthorn said.
The Badgers currently have a record of 7-9 and are 1-2 in Intermountain League play. They host Timberlake Friday at 5:30 p.m.
