Ian Sidney Rex Clark, 84

Ian Sidney Rex Clark passed away peaceful at home on Jan. 21, 2022, following a short illness. Lynne, his wife and beloved companion for 59 years, was by his side.

The eldest son of the Reverend Joseph and Edith Clark, Ian was born in Matsqui, British Columbia, Canada in 1937, the coronation year of King George VI of England. In honor of the royal occasion, he was given the second middle name, “Rex.”

Ian graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1960 with a BS in Metallurgical Engineering. In 1962 he and Lynne were married and resided in Hamilton, Ontario, until 1965 when he received an opportunity to pursue a PhD degree at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. Following a career of various research and management opportunities, Ian and Lynne settled into retirement in Hayden, Idaho where they have resided since 2005.

His early years were spent in the small town of Courtenay on Vancouver Island, where he developed an abiding love of the outdoors, including water sports in the summer and skiing in the winter. While sailing was Ian’s passion for most of his life, his greatest enjoyment in recent years was kayaking: building kayaks; paddling the lakes and rivers of the Northwest in a kayak; and sharing his knowledge and enjoyment of kayaking with others. He was an active member of the Cd'A Canoe and Kayak Club.

In addition to his wife, Ian is survived by his son and family and his daughter in California as well as his only brother and extended family in Canada.
