Those looking to beat the heat in Wallace and Kellogg are going to have to be patient for just a few more days as both cities work to get their pools open to the public.

The Kellogg Swimming Pool, located within the city park, usually opens within days of school letting out, but with colder than normal weather and the realization that they needed to replace a special pump with the pool filtration system paused all operations.

According to Kellogg city superintendent Craig Turbak, the pump has been reinstalled and the plan is to have the pool open by July 11 or 12.

Turbak was also pleased to announce that the Kellogg City Council voted in favor of waiving the entry fee, meaning that the pool is once again free for people to use.

Once it is open, the Kellogg Swimming Pool will be open Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For more information please call the pool at (208) 786-9131.

The Wallace Swimming Pool has been closed for four years after it was discovered that the pool had a mysterious leak in it.

In the years since, the city wisely allocated their annual operating funds for the four missed years of operation toward the repairs, local donations were received, various fundraising events took place, and then finally – a grant from the Idaho Department of Commerce that covered the final 25% of the project.

Totalling in at more than a million dollars to repair, the Wallace Pool is expected to reopen in the coming weeks following the completion of the painting of both the pool itself, as well as the pool deck.

Once that is finished, the pool will be filled and it will be time to celebrate.

At this time, the pool’s hours of operation are unknown.
