Thomas L.D. Brickert, 90

Thomas L.D. Brickert, a businessman, numbers genius and life-long resident of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, went to be with our Lord Jesus on January 20, 2022, at 90 years young.

Born in beautiful Coeur d’ Alene on the prairie Nov. 22, 1931, at his childhood home that is still there today. Born and raised on a dairy farm Tom was milking the cows, bottling the milk, and delivering it all before school by the age of 10. He stayed busy living the farm life as a young boy but by age 14 he wanted to do something different, so he went down to the fairgrounds and joined the National Guard, which there were no ID checks then and because of his height of 6’2 they thought he was of age.

From 1950 to 1953, they were federalized to the Korean War. A year later in 1954, Tom attended University of Idaho on the GI Bill and graduated in 1957 with a degree in accounting and business. In the summers while attending U of I, he worked at Bunker Hill Silver Mine and Keiser Aluminum. After graduating from U of I, he moved to Los Angeles to work for the IRS, but after a year he knew it wasn’t for him, so he decided to move back to his hometown where he wanted to work for himself, he then started up Brickert Tax Office.

In 1959, he married for a short time to his first wife and had his first-born daughter Davell Maureen Brickert. In June of 1962, Tom with the help of his father Thomas Brickert Sr. bought the Athletic Round Table at State Line, Idaho. That same summer he met and married Constance Annette Popp on Dec. 5. Tom and Connie then had their first-born son Lance Thomas Brickert in 1963. In 1966, Amber Lynn Brickert was born and then in 1970 Todd Anthony Brickert was born.

Tom very much enjoyed being a businessman and his own boss that he also purchased El Patio Lounge in 1970. Tom and Connie together built successful businesses through the 1980s.They went through many adversities and changes, but they persisted on together. In addition to the businesses they had, in 1982 they opened Seltice Way Stop-N-Go. Tom felt it was important to diversify, keep up with the times and was always thinking of new promotions and new avenues to add to the existing businesses. He passed on that same mentality to his kids and continued through the years with Lance, Amber and Todd, to expand and build what is now State Line Plaza.

Later, in 1996, Tom, along with his brother George and sister Mary Ann, expanded and developed a portion of Brickert Farms into Brickert Country Estates. A tribute and legacy to his heritage with roads named after their mom and grandmothers.

In his older years, Tom enjoyed seeing and watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren grow. He even continued to work from home in his final days with numbers and the sales of the stores. You could always find him in his room in his recliner chair with a ball game on TV. He enjoyed talking with anyone about sports and politics, as he had so much knowledge about both and was known for his impeccable memory. Up until the end of his days, he could easily recall exact dates of many things such as birthdays, business, family, and world events. Tom was very well known for his jokes and stories over the years that people would migrate to him to listen. In the last several years, he became more interested talking about the Bible with lots of questions and concerns with the world events unfolding. He looked forward to watching Charles Stanley and Robert Jeffress on their weekly ministry programs.

Tom is survived by his wife of 59 years, Constance Brickert; his children, Davell Turner (Jon Turner), Lance Brickert (Stacy Brickert), Amber Halverson (Ken Halverson) and Todd Brickert; his sister Mary Ann Anderson; his grandchildren, Chantel Thomas (Joey Thomas), Raquel Dawson (Jake Dawson), Chris Brickert, Cassie Brickert and Jonathan Brickert; his step-grandchildren, Zach Halverson and Taylor Halverson; his great-grandchildren, Gabe, Kyara, Kasen, Romie and Jhett; his step-great-grandchildren, River and Island. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Brickert and Emma Brickert, and his brother, George Brickert.

Tom lived a long and memorable life. We celebrate knowing he is with Jesus now and all of his questions have been answered! If you knew Tom, you know he did things big, and he touched many people’s lives. We will honor Tom with a celebration of life that will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday July 9, at 7200 No. 3, W. Seltice Way, State Line, ID 83854, located outside on the green.
