BONNERS FERRY — Data from community input provided at the Farmer's Market on June 4 on the city's Comprehensive Plan is in.

A Comprehensive Plan is a 20-year vision of what the city could be and provides direction to city staff in matters of city planning. SCJ Alliance has been contracted to help develop the plan and gain community input.

“Visitors to the Farmers Market Comprehensive Plan booth were invited to spend eight pennies on suggested broad policies to help shape the comprehensive plan's focus,” said Aaron Qualls, project manager with SCJ Alliance.

In the penny poll, on what would residents want their dollars to go toward, 145 cents were put in favor of putting funds toward outdoor recreation. Another 113 pennies were earmarked for a friendly, safe, tight, knit and connected community, 109 cents for balanced, responsible growth, 103 cents for a prosperous economy and 76 cents preserving a rich, unforgotten history and leadership integrity, 62 cents for community involvement and 31 cents for other priorities not named.

A mini-poll and raffle was also provided for participants to weigh in on planning priorities.

City officials said there was a good turn out of public input as with nearly 90 people participating in the penny poll and almost 70 participating in the mini-poll.

An online community survey will be available this month. Planners will be at the Boundary County Fairgrounds in August to hear from residents as the plan takes shape.
