Nyla Jean Meyer, 78

Nyla was born on Sept. 13, 1943, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to Leslie and Neva Cady.

She attended school in Rathdrum, Idaho, and graduated in 1961.

On Sept. 23, 1961, she and Kenneth Meyer were married in Coeur d’Alene.

They made their home in Hayden Lake, where they stayed for seven years before moving to their current home on Greensferry Road near Rathdrum.

They welcomed four children, son Todd in 1964, daughter Michelle in 1966 and sons David in 1968 and Jeff in 1970.

Nyla was always involved in their activities as a fundraiser, volunteer and cheering section.

She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, ceramics, making quilts and goose-down pillows. She was a wonderful gardener and homemaker preparing not only nutritious but delicious meals and baked goods. She froze and canned fruits and vegetables, made jams and jellies, pickled beets and was known for her fabulous dill pickles. She was generous with her pickles and shared surplus treats of fresh vegetables, more often than not delivered by a member of the Meyer family.

Nyla also drove a bus for the Lakeland School District for 27-plus years.

She may have been tiny in stature, but she had a gigantic heart. What she lacked in size, she made up for in kindness and generosity.

Nyla is survived by husband Kenny Meyer, son Todd Meyer, grandsons Brett Meyer of Rathdrum, Joshua Meyer of Post Falls and James Meyer (Hannah) and great-grandsons Dawson and Lyle Meyer of Coeur d’Alene.

She was preceded in death by her children, Michelle, Jeff and David and her parents, Leslie and Neva Cady.

Nyla loved Gonzaga and the Mariners. When they played, she stayed home and cheered them on.

Those privileged to know Nyla found proof positive that there are angels among us.

A graveside service for Nyla will be held at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at Pinegrove Cemetery, 6693 W. Highway 53, Rathdrum.
