Behrens, Bopp to be honored by IHSAA

Josh Behrens of Post Falls will be honored as Official of the Year at the 42nd annual Idaho High School Activities Association Hall of Fame banquet, scheduled for Aug. 3 at The Boise Centre.

Also at the banquet, longtime basketball official Bill Bopp of Cocolalla will receive the District Distinguished Service Award from District 1.

Both were among this year’s nominations from the District 1 Board of Control.

Behrens is an official in football, basketball and baseball. He was the District 1 Football Official of the Year in 2021, and was the district's top-ranked football official and baseball umpire in 2021.

“Josh is very active in recruiting new officials,” District 1 football commissioner Roger Stewart said. “He organizes and actively participates in the training of all officials by organizing clinics, and mentoring all officials, especially at the younger levels of participation. He is building a great baseball staff of umpires for District 1.”

Bopp retired after the 2020-21 basketball season after 37 seasons as an official in North Idaho. He worked an estimated 38 state basketball tournaments — 20 boys and 18 girls.
