WHITEFISH, Mont. — Troy Shepard struck out 10 and allowed two hits in five innings as the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen “AA” team won its fourth tournament in five tries, beating the host Glacier Twins “A” 8-0 in the championship game of the Sapa-Johnsrud Memorial Tournament on Sunday night at Memorial Field.

Joe DuCoeur had two hits and drove in two runs for Coeur d’Alene (28-7), which has now won 12 straight games, and 17 of its last 18. Ryan Schneider went 2 for 3 and scored two runs for the Lums, and Kyle Bridge went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.

“That’s a good team,” Coeur d’Alene coach Darren Taylor said of Glacier. “That’s a good pitcher; we wore him down. Troy got out of a couple of messes, and then we started manufacturing some runs.

“We got some bunts down, ran some first-and-third plays, with good execution — stuff that wins in the postseason.”

Coeur d’Alene wraps up the regular season Wednesday in Lewiston with a 5 p.m. doubleheader vs. the Lewis-Clark Twins at Harris Field.

Lewis-Clark and Coeur d’Alene then meet in a best-of-3 series at Thorco Field in Coeur d’Alene for the Area A (district) title, with the first two games on Saturday starting at 3 p.m., with Sunday’s game, if necessary, at noon.
