Detectives with the Coeur d’Alene Police Department are still investigating the circumstances surrounding a newborn baby left June 30 outside an apartment near W. Hanley Avenue and N. Courcelles Parkway.

The child’s mother has not been located and neither have any of the child’s biological relatives, according to police.

Officers responded around 6 a.m. to a call about the abandoned newborn who was left on the doorstep of an apartment and found by a resident leaving for work.

The baby was wrapped in a towel and placed in a stroller outside.

Anyone with information that could assist in this investigation is encouraged to contact the Coeur d’Alene Police Department.

Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the CDAPDTip app for iPhone and Android (available for download from the a App Store or Google Play.)

The app is an anonymous service run through a third party and users' information is completely confidential, according to a police department news release.

As a reminder, Idaho has “Safe Haven” laws protecting mothers who are unable to care for a newborn child provided the child is younger than 30 days old and left at a city fire station, at local hospitals or with certain medical professionals. Safe Haven laws protect the mother’s anonymity as long as the mother doesn’t express a desire to return for her child. If the mother’s identity is known, the “Safe Haven” will keep that information confidential.
