LEGION BASEBALL: Lums bounce back in nightcap for split
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 2 years, 6 months AGO
LEWISTON — Joe DuCoeur scored Marcus Manzardo on a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth inning to give Coeur d’Alene the lead for good as the Lumbermen bounced back to beat the Lewis-Clark Twins 10-6 in the second game of a doubleheader at Harris Field on Wednesday.
Coeur d’Alene (29-8) had won 12 straight before falling 8-6 in the first game. The Lumbermen won three of four games against the Twins (18-15) this season and will be the top seed to the Class AA Area A best-of-3 series on Saturday at Thorco Field, starting with Game 1 at 3 p.m., followed by Game 2 at 5.
An if-necessary Game 3 would be at Harris Field in Lewiston Sunday at 4 p.m.
“We looked a little tired coming out of all the tourneys we’ve been in lately,” Coeur d’Alene coach Darren Taylor said. “Our pitching staff looked a little worn out, but I’m proud that they found the energy to fight back and get the split. Offensively, we kind of spread it around and there really wasn’t just one guy tonight.”
Both Coeur d’Alene and Lewis-Clark advance to state next week in Nampa.
Spencer Zeller had a two-run double to cut the deficit to 8-6 in the sixth inning, but the Lumbermen were unable to get any closer in a loss to the Twins in the first game.
Zeller and Marcus Manzardo had two hits each for Coeur d’Alene, which committed five errors and allowed six unearned runs in the opener.
Quinton Edmison had three runs scored in the first game for Lewis-Clark.
Jesse Brown struck out four and allowed two hits in four innings of relief in the second game for Coeur d’Alene. Eric Bumbaugh had two RBIs and a run scored for Coeur d’Alene.
