MISSOULA – The Bureau of Business and Economic Research at the University of Montana will travel to seven Montana cities at the beginning of August to present a midyear assessment of the outlook for the U.S. and Montana economy. In addition to the economic outlook, BBER will focus on the supply chain disruptions that have impacted most businesses in Montana.

The Kalispell presentation is at noon on Thursday, Aug. 4, at the Hilton Garden Inn,

“2022 has been an eventful year for the economy already,” BBER Director Patrick Barkey said. “The torrid pace of economic growth of last year has given us surging inflation, very tight labor markets and empty store shelves in 2022. And now the prospect of the Federal Reserve finally taking action against inflation to cool down growth has spooked financial markets and awakened recession fears. What is next?”

The 90-minute program will discuss these issues and others affecting our economic future as a state. The program will include breakfast, lunch or an afternoon snack, depending on the location. Registration is $35.

Established in 1948, the Bureau of Business and Economic Research is the main research unit of the University of Montana’s College of Business.

BBER researchers engage in a wide range of applied research projects that address different aspects of the state economy, including survey research, economic analysis, health care research, forecasting, wood products research and energy research.
