MOSES LAKE - Big Bend Community College hired John Meeks as the school’s new athletic director, bringing along years of coaching experience to Big Bend’s athletic programs.

Meeks spent nine seasons as the head basketball coach at Wallace State Community College in Alabama, coaching from 2011-2019. In the years prior, he spent two years as head coach of Louisburg College in North Carolina. Both schools are members of the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Along with serving as a head coach, Meeks has also spent time as an assistant coach - spending three years as an assistant at both Lee University and Bluefield College, both members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Meeks has been elected to vice president of the NJCAA four times and also was an intern with the association’s national office.

Throughout Meeks’ coaching career he has composed winning records at each school, and appeared in national postseason tournaments eight times.

Meeks holds a master’s degree in physical education from the University of Houston and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Bluefield College. At most of his coaching stops, he has also spent time teaching classes as an associate faculty. He claims a 93% graduation rate of student-athletes he has coached, emphasizing a strong focus on academic success.
