SPIRIT LAKE - Running Shoes 4 Kids will have its annual day of races and more Saturday at Volunteer Park in Spirit Lake as it celebrates "10 years of running for kindness."

There will be four distances for all ages at the Go Good Fun Run, including a quarter-mile, half-mile, one-mile and a 5K.

Pick one or run them all.

The fun runs start at 10 a.m.

Fifty pairs of shoes will be given away to kids. Each participant will receive a ticket for a chance to receive a pair of running shoes of their choice.

There will also be prizes, vendors, car show, live music and kids' activities.

Running Shoes 4 Kids is a nonprofit that provides running shoes for kids and encourages a fun, healthy lifestyle. It was founded in 2012.

"We're empowering kids to do good," Colene Hotmer, RS4K founder and president, told The Press in a previous interview.

Starting with just a few runners receiving shoes, the RS4K program has now gifted about 1,000 pairs of running shoes.

RS4K aims to "empower every individual to believe that they have the ability to make positive choices and the resilience to accomplish hard things."

Registration is $15 for youth 16 and under; $25 for adults, single race, and $30 for the "Quad Crown Challenge;" and $55 for a family of five. For a team more than 10, it's $10 plus $10 per participant.
