Two people died in an accident at the intersection of Canfield Avenue and Government Way on Wednesday.

According to the Idaho State Police, the driver of a Toyota Highlander was southbound on Government Way and turning eastbound onto Canfield from the left-turn lane about 12:10 p.m. when it collided with a three-wheel Can-Am motorcycle that was northbound on Government Way.

The Highlander was driven by a 76-year-old Coeur d'Alene woman, with a 95-year-old female passenger, ISP said. Both were wearing seat belts and were not injured.

A 93-year-old Spirit Lake man was driving the motorcycle, with a 63-year-old Hayden woman the passenger. Both were wearing helmets, ISP said.

The man died at the scene while the woman was transported to a hospital, where she died, according to ISP.

Traffic at the intersection was slowed for about five hours before the lanes were completely reopened.

An investigation continues.
